Cataract
A condition of the eyes that causes vision loss due to a clouding of the crystalline lens inside the eye. Generally associated with aging, cataract can be caused by injury or some medication reaction. The early signs of cataract are the need for brighter light while reading, glare from headlights at night, a loss of sharpness of the edges of objects and generalized blurriness. Cataracts are removed with surgery which restores the vision. A regular eye examination is necessary to monitor the progression of cataract and to help the patient decide when surgery is indicated.
