Get a comprehensive eye exam.

A thorough eye examination is more than just determining an eyeglass prescription.  A case history to define vision problems and specific requirements is done first along with a review of the medical history.  Test are performed to evaluate eye motion, eye tracking and positioning.  Screening of the integrity of the visual field and pupil function are part of the testing before an eyeglass prescription is determined.  Finally, a very careful evaluation of the health of the eyes is done by looking at the eyes from the lids back to the retina. The inside of the eyes is best done looking through a dilated pupil with a special viewing instrument. After all the testing is finished the findings are discussed and explained to the patient before frame selection or contact lens fitting is done.
