Treatment of Eye Disease

Once a disease process has been identified, treatment is initiated.  For dry eye syndrome it may be as simple as having the patient use artificial tears 4 or 5 times a day.  For glaucoma, choosing the appropriate medication that will lower the eye pressure to safe levels while considering possible systemic side effects and cost.  Each disease has its unique characteristics and requires treatment tailored to the condition.  For some eye disease referral to another medical specialist is necessary and should be made as soon as possible
